American rapper Lil Nas X will spend the weekend behind bars after being arrested in Los Angeles for allegedly assaulting a police officer and being hospitalised over a possible overdose.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the 26-year-old cannot be released on citation due to the seriousness of the charge. He must appear before a judge on Monday before bail can even be considered.
Police confirmed that Lil Nas X is facing charges under Penal Code 69 (a) PC, which accuses him of using force or violence to resist or prevent an officer from carrying out their duty.
The arrest occurred early Thursday morning on Ventura Boulevard, where witnesses reported seeing the Old Town Road star behaving erratically. Dressed only in underwear and cowboy boots, he was reportedly walking in the middle of the street, singing, striking poses, and talking about a party.
When officers arrived at the scene, the rapper allegedly charged at them. He was restrained, taken to hospital for a possible overdose, and later booked for battery on a police officer.
Sources also claim his family has grown increasingly concerned about his recent behaviour and may stage an intervention.
Lil Nas X will remain in custody until his court hearing on Monday, when his bail conditions will be determined.
