Lily Allen Returns Adopted Puppy After It Devours Family Passports

British singer Lily Allen recently made a surprising confession on her podcast Miss Her?, revealing that she had to return an adopted puppy after it destroyed her family’s passports. The mishap occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 when Allen welcomed a puppy named Mary into her home, only to face an unexpected and costly dilemma.

Allen shared that the trouble began when the mischievous pup chewed up her passport along with those of her two daughters, Ethel, 12, and Marnie, 11. The passports also contained their visas, making the situation even more challenging. “It was just an absolute logistical nightmare,” Allen explained. “Because the father of my children lives in England, I couldn’t get them back to see their dad for like four months, five months, because this f**king dog had eaten the passports. I just couldn’t look at her — I was like, ‘You’ve ruined my life.’”

The passports were the final straw for Allen, who had already been struggling with the dog’s behavior. Despite her efforts to train Mary, the singer ultimately decided that the situation was untenable and returned the pup to the adoption center.

Living in New York with her husband, actor David Harbour, Allen’s two daughters are from her previous marriage to Sam Cooper, who resides in the UK. The family is now considering adopting another dog, but this decision has not gone unnoticed.

Animal rights charity PETA has since written an open letter to Allen, urging her to reconsider. The organization emphasized that dogs “should never be treated as accessories to be discarded when they become inconvenient,” highlighting the importance of responsible pet ownership.

As Allen and her family weigh the decision to adopt another pet, the singer’s candid account serves as a reminder of the challenges and responsibilities that come with bringing a furry friend into the home.
