On December 15, LXAR, the innovative art collective founded by Anietie Robert (Anny Robert) and Alexander Ashimole (Lex Ash), hosted a deeply moving art exhibition that captured the hearts of its attendees. Held in Lekki, Lagos, the event featured 41 powerful artworks that explored themes of vulnerability, exhaustion, and the transformative strength of community.
Titled ‘I Am Tired and I Am Tired of Pretending I Can Do This Alone’, the exhibition reflected the personal and professional challenges the artists have navigated, making it a raw and relatable experience for all who visited. Alongside the visual art, the exhibition unveiled a companion book, ensuring that the message of resilience and collective support would resonate beyond the event.
Artworks such as ‘Jaded, Blue’, ‘At Wits End’, ‘Stillness in Bloom’, ‘Duality of Self’, and ‘Holometabolous’ invited viewers to engage with the artists’ journeys. Anny Robert shared, “When my partner suggested doing this show, I was exhausted and ready to give up on creating. The idea of sharing this journey with someone was appealing.” Lex Ash added, “At a point in our careers where we’ve achieved a lot, we were fatigued by the constant grind. We decided to turn that exhaustion into something that others could appreciate and connect with.”
This exhibition stands as a testament to the power of vulnerability and the importance of community in overcoming personal and creative challenges.
