Miley Cyrus is getting real about why she’s stepped away from touring — and it has everything to do with protecting her mental health and sobriety.
No Tour Plans? Here’s Why
In a candid interview on Good Morning America, the 32-year-old Flowers hitmaker revealed that although she has the opportunity and physical ability to tour, she simply doesn’t have the desire.
“It’s really hard to maintain sobriety when you’re on the road, which is kind of a pillar of stability in my life,” Miley shared.
“None of this that I create would even be possible without the way I think about things.”
Miley, who gave up marijuana in 2017 and has been open about her journey with sobriety, says that the chaotic, high-pressure lifestyle that comes with touring just doesn’t align with her values anymore.
“It’s Hard to Keep Mental Wellness”
The Wrecking Ball singer also spoke about the toll that life on the road has taken on her mental health over the years.
She admitted that touring has made it difficult to stay grounded.
“I do think it’s really hard to keep mental wellness,” she said, echoing similar comments she made back in 2023 when she called touring “unhealthy” for her.
In a TikTok post at the time, Miley explained how the constant dynamic of “subject and observer”— with fans watching her every move — began to “erase [her] humanity.”
“Without my humanity and my connection, I can’t be a songwriter, which is my priority,” she explained.
Touring’s Broken Infrastructure
Miley didn’t stop at the personal reasons — she also took aim at the music industry itself, calling out the lack of support systems for artists who tour extensively.
“I don’t think that there’s an infrastructure that supports artists,” she said.
“I wish I had the desire [to tour], but I don’t.”
Her comments add to growing conversations among artists about how modern touring demands often lead to burnout and health issues.
A Life Unlike Her Father’s
Miley also reflected on how her upbringing contrasts with that of her father, country star Billy Ray Cyrus.
While Billy Ray struggled financially and emotionally in his early years, Miley grew up with more support and stability.
“I grew up on a soundstage… with a family who was super close and all lived under the same roof,”she explained.
“I grew up financially stable and emotionally stable… that’s something my dad didn’t have.”
Creativity Over Crowds
Ultimately, Miley is choosing longevity and authenticity over large crowds and global arenas.
She’s putting her mental clarity and creative output first — and fans who truly connect with her music know that means her best work is still ahead.
Tour or no tour, Miley Cyrus continues to set boundaries, rewrite her own narrative, and prove that sometimes stepping back is the bravest — and smartest — move an artist can make.
