Warner Bros. unveiled an exclusive behind-the-scenes featurette for “Mortal Kombat 2” at New York Comic-Con, with filmmakers declaring “Filmmaking doesn’t get much bigger than this” and “This is the way Mortal Kombat is meant to be seen.”
The behind the scenes footage showcases the massive production scale director Simon McQuoid brought to the action sequel. Mortal Kombat 2 features returning cast members alongside newcomer Karl Urban as Johnny Cage, with the NYCC panel including Urban, Adeline Rudolph (Kitana), Tati Gabrielle (Jade), and Martyn Ford (Shao Kahn).
The sequel was originally scheduled for October 24, 2025, but Warner Bros. pushed the release to May 15, 2026, giving the production more time to deliver epic fight sequences. The Mortal Kombat follow-up will launch exclusively in theaters including IMAX venues, marking the franchise’s return to premium large format screens.
The behind the scenes preview revealed at NYCC builds anticipation for the sequel written by Jeremy Slater. The footage emphasizes the film’s commitment to delivering authentic Mortal Kombat action on a scale befitting the legendary video game franchise’s cinematic debut.
