Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan, has donated 2 billion Naira to
Nollywood as part of efforts to support the Nigerian movie industry
distribution system in an attempt to curb piracy.
The president held a closed-door meeting with several key players in
Nollywood on January 24, 2015, and the outcome of the meeting has led
to the creation of “Project Act Nollywood” and a N 2 billion Innovation
Distribution Fund (IDF).
According to a Vanguard report, the Special Adviser, Media to CME, Paul
C. Nwabuikwu, issued a statement in Abuja recently saying that the IDF
was created to support those in the movie industry and those planning to
be a part of the industry.
The IDF is expected to help address the challenges in the distribution
system which has loopholes that movie pirates have taken advantage of.
However, application for the distribution support via funding can be
done through the Project ACT online web portal which will be active for
two months after it kicked off on January 19, 2015.
