Renowned gospel minister and pastor Nathaniel Bassey has debunked claims that he will perform at President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20, 2025. The reports, which had circulated widely online and in traditional media, suggested that the Onise Iyanu singer would be among international Christian artists taking part in the ceremony.
In a statement, Pastor Bassey clarified that he was neither invited nor associated with the official inauguration. He explained that the confusion likely stemmed from his involvement in the Presidential Prayer Breakfast, a faith-based, non-governmental event traditionally held before the inauguration of a new U.S. president.
Bassey noted that the event is “a non-official platform where intercessory prayers and worship are offered to God on behalf of the office of the president and government of the nation.” He emphasized that the breakfast is not connected to the official inauguration and has been held every four years, attended by leaders and dignitaries from around the globe.
The Akwa Ibom-born pastor urged the public to disregard misleading reports, stating, “The Presidential Inaugural Prayer Breakfast is not the inauguration as reported by blogs and some online platforms.”
Bassey’s clarification sets the record straight, emphasizing the spiritual purpose of the prayer breakfast over any political affiliations.
