Netflix Drops First Look at Building The Band Featuring the Late Liam Payne — Release Date Confirmed

Netflix has finally unveiled the trailer and official release date for its highly anticipated music competition series Building The Band—featuring the late Liam Payne in one of his final television appearances.

The show, which blends the suspense of Love Is Blind with the energy of The X Factor, was filmed in summer 2024, just months before Payne’s tragic death. Now, after months of internal discussions and with his family’s blessing, Netflix has confirmed that Building The Band will premiere on July 9, 2025.

What Is Building The Band About?

Described as a musical twist on the “pods” concept, Building The Band allows singers to audition without seeing each other, choosing their future bandmates based solely on chemistry, voice, and vibe. The goal? Form a supergroup built on raw talent—not appearances.

The show is hosted by Backstreet Boys legend AJ McLean and features an all-star judging panel including Nicole ScherzingerKelly Rowland, and Liam Payne, with additional guest judges to appear across the three-week event.

Liam Payne’s Posthumous Appearance

While the trailer doesn’t explicitly feature Liam or reference his role, his participation was confirmed prior to his passing. He filmed his judging segments in Manchester, England, in August 2024.

Netflix addressed the emotional weight of the release with a statement:

“Liam Payne’s family reviewed the series and is supportive of his inclusion.”

Out of respect, the release of the show was delayed in late 2024 following the shocking news of Payne’s death. The beloved One Direction star passed away at age 31 in October 2024, following a tragic fall from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires.

A Tribute to Talent and Legacy

The show promises to be more than just another music competition. For fans, Building The Band will serve as a bittersweet celebration of Liam Payne’s final creative contribution, capturing his passion for music and mentorship.

Liam’s former One Direction bandmates released a heartfelt joint statement after his death:

“We’re completely devastated by the news of Liam’s passing… The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever. We love you Liam.”

Release Schedule
