Netflix is bringing the beloved Sanrio characters My Melody and Kuromi to life with a heartwarming new stop-motion animation series titled My Melody & Kuromi. The show, set to debut in July 2025, will celebrate My Melody’s 50th anniversary and Kuromi’s 20th anniversary, introducing fans to their whimsical world like never before.
A Peek into Mariland
The teaser trailer offers fans a glimpse of the charming visual style, transporting them into Mariland, the magical home of My Melody and Kuromi. My Melody is portrayed as a cheerful, caring girl with a love for baking alongside her mother and looking after her younger brother. In contrast, Kuromi, her punkish rival, hides a softer, more feminine side behind her mischievous exterior.
Creative Team and Studio
The series is the first project by Toruko, a branch of the acclaimed WIT STUDIO (Spy x Family, Attack on Titan). Directed by Tomoki Misato and written by Shuko Nemoto, the team has infused the show with a deep love for the Sanrio universe.
Writer Shuko Nemoto shared the joy of crafting dialogue for the beloved characters:
