Nigerian singer Omah Lay has revealed a shocking experience in which a fellow artist allegedly stole the concept for his next album. Speaking on the Zach Sang Show, the Bad Influence hitmaker disclosed that he had shared his album idea with a colleague, intending to collaborate, only to find out months later that the artist released an album with the same concept.
Omah Lay recounted how the situation forced him to re-record his entire album, which he believes will be a groundbreaking project in Afrobeats. “My song ‘Holy Ghost’ is a new sound. I was going to make the whole album with the new sound but along the line, I changed my mind,” he explained.
He continued, “I shared an idea with a certain artist and the artist went ahead and put out an album with my idea, and I had to re-record my album. He came to me, and I accepted for us to collaborate. Of course, it’s an artist that I love. And I told him where I’m headed with the sound. Five months later, he put out an album with exactly all the same sound that I shared with him.”
Despite the setback, Omah Lay is confident that his reworked album will be a monumental release in Afrobeats history. “I had to go back and remake my album, which is actually going to be the greatest album of all time in Afrobeats history,” he declared.
The revelation has sparked discussions among fans and industry insiders about the importance of protecting creative ideas and the challenges artists face in the competitive music industry.
