OpenAI new AI browser, ChatGPT Atlas, Launches

OpenAI new AI browser, ChatGPT Atlas, has launched, marking the company’s boldest move yet to reshape how people use the internet. The new AI-powered web browser, announced on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, is built on the Chromium engine and integrates the ChatGPT experience directly into web navigation. Currently available for macOS users, the release represents a direct challenge to the dominance of Google Chrome.

The browser’s most innovative feature is the Agent Mode, available to premium subscribers, which allows the AI to perform complex, multi-step tasks on the user’s behalf. This means ChatGPT Atlas can autonomously book flights, conduct research, or fill out forms across multiple websites without manual input. Atlas also includes an integrated ChatGPT sidebar for instantly summarizing or analyzing content on any page you visit.

Additionally, the OpenAI new AI browser features optional “Browser Memories,” which enable the AI to remember context and details from past sessions for a more personalized and intuitive experience. This capability allows the AI to recall previous searches and offer smarter suggestions, transforming the static web into a dynamic, conversational platform. The company stressed that user data is not used for model training by default.

The release of ChatGPT Atlas is set to intensify the competition in the browser market, forcing rivals like Google and Microsoft to accelerate their own AI integrations. OpenAI confirmed that versions for Windows, iOS, and Android platforms are “coming soon,” demonstrating its aggressive strategy to establish its AI-centric interface as the future of online navigation.
