Patrick Vieira Sacked Genoa Coach After Winless Start to Serie A Season

Former Arsenal and France legend Patrick Vieira has been sacked as the head coach of Genoa CFC. The decision was confirmed by the club today, November 1, 2025, following a disastrous and winless start to the 2025-2026 Serie A campaign that left the team rooted to the bottom of the league table. The dismissal comes less than a year after Vieira took the helm in November 2024.

The pressure mounted after Genoa managed just three draws and six defeats in their nine league fixtures, leaving them two points adrift of safety. The final blow came with a disheartening 2-0 home loss to newly-promoted Cremonese earlier this week. In their statement, Genoa CFC confirmed the departure of Vieira and his staff, extending “best wishes for the continuation of their professional careers.”

Vieira had previously steered Genoa away from relegation trouble, guiding them to a 13th-place finish in the Italian top-flight last season. However, despite signing a contract extension over the summer, the dire lack of goals with the team registering a joint-low four goals scored ultimately sealed his fate. The club’s management determined that the run of results made the coach’s position untenable.

The immediate technical leadership of the first team has been entrusted to Roberto Murgita on an interim basis, assisted by Domenico Criscito. The interim duo faces a major challenge, with the team’s next fixture coming up on Monday against Sassuolo. The departure of Patrick Vieira Sacked Genoa signals the club’s desperate attempt to reverse its fortunes and escape the relegation zone.
