Atalanta BC may soon be bidding farewell to their star forward, Ademola Lookman, as interest from European giants Paris Saint-Germain heats up. Atalanta’s head coach, Gian Piero Gasperini, recently confirmed PSG’s ongoing pursuit of the Nigerian international, suggesting Lookman’s departure could be imminent.
Speaking with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Gasperini said
PSG had already made advances toward Lookman during the summer transfer window, reaching an agreement on personal terms with the player. However, the clubs ultimately couldn’t seal the deal. With Lookman now attracting attention from Premier League clubs like Chelsea and West Ham, Atalanta is preparing to cash in, reportedly seeking a transfer fee of around €60 million.
The funds from Lookman’s transfer would allow Atalanta to invest in emerging talent, with names like Argentine striker Mario Retegui, Nico Gonzalez, Federico Chiesa, Denis Dragus, and Angel Gomes topping the potential replacements list.
Since joining Atalanta from RB Leipzig in 2022, Lookman has become a vital part of the squad, helping lead them to UEFA Europa League glory last season. His stellar performances also garnered global acclaim, placing him 14th in the prestigious Ballon d’Or standings. As Atalanta prepares for this potential loss, they’re also eyeing fresh talent to continue their momentum.
