Wumi Toriola’s debut cinema production, Queen Lateefah, continues its impressive run at the Nigerian box office, grossing a remarkable ₦350 million in just two months. This milestone has catapulted the film to become the 7th highest-grossing Nollywood film of all time.
The film’s distributor, Cinemax Nigeria, shared the exciting news on Instagram, celebrating the achievement: “Queen Lateefah still waxing strong and shining bright! Grossing 350M and 7th Highest Grossing Nollywood Title of All Time! Big thank you to everyone who has seen this masterpiece. You guys are the best.”
Queen Lateefah had a stellar opening, earning ₦57.7 million in its opening weekend, setting a record for the highest-grossing Nollywood movie for a non-holiday weekend in 2024. It also broke records as the highest-grossing Nollywood weekend for an independent distributor.
The film, produced by Wumi Toriola Productions in partnership with Captain of the Sea Productions, explores the life of Lateefah Adeleke, a 30-year-old businesswoman seeking societal recognition. Her journey of self-discovery and the consequences of living a fabricated life come to light when she meets businessman Jide Rhodes, played by Kunle Remi. The star-studded cast, including Femi Adebayo, Nancy Isime, Broda Shaggi, and others, has made Queen Lateefah a cinematic success.
This milestone further solidifies Queen Lateefah as one of the most impactful Nollywood films of 2024.
