A monumental collaboration has been unveiled in the independent watchmaking world: Ressence has launched the Type 3 MN, a special limited-edition timepiece created with legendary industrial designer Marc Newson. This partnership merges Ressence founder Benoît Mintiens’ groundbreaking oil-filled mechanical technology with the distinct, organic, and minimalist design language that Newson has perfected throughout his career, including his iconic work for Ikepod and Apple.
The Type 3 MN is instantly recognizable by Newson’s aesthetic touch. The 45mm Grade 5 titanium case adopts a signature Newson-designed, lug-less “pebble silhouette,” ensuring exceptional comfort on the wrist. Mechanically, it retains Ressence’s patented ROCS system, where the upper chamber is filled with silicone oil, creating a stunning visual effect that makes the celadon green and soft grey display appear projected directly onto the crystal.
Newson focused on an updated palette for the display, utilizing a subdued yet striking combination of celadon green, light grey, black, and contrasting vibrant yellow accents on the thermal gauge and minute markers. The hands are simplified to their most essential forms, creating unparalleled legibility and paying homage to his early, minimalist watch designs while showcasing the watch’s complex orbital movement.
Destined to be a collector’s item, the Ressence Type 3 MN Marc Newson is strictly limited to only 80 pieces worldwide and priced at CHF 46,000. This collaboration stands as a defining moment, illustrating how design innovation and revolutionary engineering can converge to create a timepiece that fundamentally challenges traditional horological expectations
