Routine sci-fi horror game fans can finally mark their calendars: the long-awaited title from Lunar Software is confirmed to launch on December 4, 2025. The highly anticipated game, set on an abandoned lunar base with a distinct 80s retro-future aesthetic, will be released across Steam, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One, ending an agonizing wait of over a decade.
This release is especially significant as the Routine sci-fi horror game will be available on Day One via Xbox Game Pass, giving subscribers immediate access. The development journey has been tumultuous since its 2012 announcement, including a full restart of the project to ensure the quality met the team’s vision for the survival experience.
The gameplay focuses on claustrophobic tension and exploration, forcing players to rely heavily on stealth and their multi-purpose “Cosmonaut Assistance Tool” (C.A.T.). Direct combat is intentionally avoided, aligning with the “helpless protagonist” subgenre popularized in horror. Adding to the dread is the sound design by acclaimed composer Mick Gordon.
The December launch of the Routine sci-fi horror game represents a triumph of developer perseverance against challenging odds. After years of speculation, the project is ready to deliver a minimalist, terrifying experience to a patient and expectant horror community.
