Four-time Oscar nominee Saoirse Ronan has officially been cast as Linda McCartney in Sam Mendes’ ambitious Saoirse Ronan Linda McCartney project: The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event. The series will tell the story of the iconic band from four interconnected perspectives, with one film dedicated to each member. Ronan will appear opposite Paul Mescal, who is set to play Paul McCartney, her character’s first husband.
Linda McCartney, an acclaimed American photographer, married Paul in 1969 and later joined his post-Beatles band, Wings, as a keyboardist. The films, which are the first sanctioned by the surviving Beatles and the estates of the late John Lennon and George Harrison, will cover the band’s journey from Liverpool to their 1970 breakup.
The casting of Saoirse Ronan Linda McCartney marks the first key non-Beatle role announced for the quartet of films. Her involvement adds another high-profile name to the cast, which includes Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison, and Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr.
Ronan’s role as Linda McCartney is expected to be most prominent in Mescal’s film, detailing their decades-long romance and musical collaborations before her death in 1998. The unprecedented “binge-able theatrical experience” is scheduled to release all four parts in April 2028.
