Serena Williams voiced her distress after spotting a cotton plant décor display in the hallway of an unnamed luxury NYC hotel where she was staying.
In an Instagram video, Williams zoomed in on the cotton stems, asking followers, “How do we feel about cotton as decoration?” She added, “Personally, for me, it doesn’t feel great,” referencing the plant’s painful historical association with slavery in the US.
