Shakira’s tax receipts might lie. The pop star is under investigation by Spanish authorities for allegedly failing to pay income taxes from 2012 to 2014.
The “Hips Don’t Lie” singer reported a move from the Bahamas to
Barcelona in 2015 with boyfriend Gerard Pique and their two sons, but
tax authorities believe she was already living in Barcelona.
Prosecutor José Miguel Company said Tuesday that a decision
on whether to press charges is expected in mid-June.
Anna Forastier, a spokeswoman for auditing firm PwC, said Shakira had hired the company during the investigation.
In late December, Shakira postponed her El Doraldo World Tour until June.
“To my dear fans and friends, I wanted to write one more letter to
express my gratitude to all of you for the immeasurable love and support
that you have sent me these past few weeks,” she wrote on Instagram at
the time.
“You have made me feel that my voice is not only mine but also yours,
and that it has a purpose. There were times when your prayers and
messages of affection and encouragement along with those of my family
were the only thing buoying my spirits.”
