Popular Nigerian singer Raoul John Njeng-Njeng, known as Skales, has opened up about his songwriting contributions to his former labelmate, Wizkid. In a recent appearance on Curiosity Made Me Ask with Bae U Barbie, Skales revealed that he co-wrote several hit tracks for Wizkid during their time at Empire Mates Entertainment (EME), including the bonus track “Wiz Party” from Wizkid’s debut album, Super Star.
Skales also shared that the collaboration went both ways, as Wizkid wrote the hit song “Mukulu” for him. He explained, “Back in EME, we were a team, so we used to write songs for each other. I wrote songs for Wizkid, and he wrote songs for me too.”
Both Skales and Wizkid were among the first artists signed to EME by R&B star and music executive Banky W in the early 2010s, a move that launched their careers into the spotlight. However, after a series of disagreements with Banky W, both artists eventually parted ways with the label.
In a previous interview, Banky W revealed that despite Wizkid’s departure, the star was still contractually obligated to deliver three more albums to the label, an issue that has since been a point of contention.
The revelation by Skales highlights the teamwork that existed within the EME crew and sheds light on the collaborative efforts that contributed to the success of both artists during their early careers.
