Solomon Buchi Slams BET Awards Over GloRilla’s Best Gospel Artist Win: “This Is a Scam!”

Nigerian writer and social commentator Solomon Buchi is not holding back.

In a video that’s now making the rounds online, Buchi strongly criticized the BET Awards for awarding American rapper GloRilla the title of Best Gospel Artist — a move he believes completely undermines the integrity of gospel music.

“Just Because She Sang with a Gospel Artist?” – Buchi Speaks Out

Reacting to GloRilla’s unexpected win at the recently concluded BET Awards, Buchi argued that a single collaboration with a gospel artist does not automatically make someone a gospel singer.

“So naked, profane-singing, seductively dressed pop stars are now winning gospel awards?” he questioned in the video.

He went on to criticize her image and lifestyle, noting that her revealing outfits and explicit lyrics contradict the values of gospel music.

“The Gospel Industry Is a Scam” – He Continues

Buchi didn’t stop there. He slammed the entire gospel music industry for what he called a loss of spiritual direction:

“Shame on all involved to make this happen. Again, the gospel industry is a scam. It became a scam ever since it stopped being ministry.”

His comments sparked intense debate on social media, with many agreeing that the award was misplaced, while others defended GloRilla’s artistic evolution and right to explore different genres.

The Controversy: GloRilla as Gospel Artist?

GloRilla, known for her raw rap style and street anthems, raised eyebrows when she was announced as BET’s Best Gospel/Inspirational Artist. Though she recently released a spiritually-themed track, critics argue that her overall persona and discography do not reflect gospel standards.

Social Media Reacts

Online reactions have been mixed. While some users praised BET for thinking outside the box, many others echoed Buchi’s sentiments, saying the move was a disrespect to actual gospel artists who live and breathe the genre.
