Spanish footballer Rafa Mir, currently on loan at Valencia from Sevilla, has been transferred to court following his arrest on suspicion of sexually assaulting a 25-year-old woman. The 27-year-old striker has spent two days in police custody and was seen being moved to Lliria court in Valencia on Wednesday.
Mir’s lawyer, Jaime Campaner, has stated that the relationship was “without a doubt” consensual, while reports indicate that Mir’s father visited him to provide personal belongings. The Civil Guard confirmed the arrest of a LaLiga footballer, denying media reports that a second man was in custody, though further arrests could be possible.
The alleged incident reportedly took place during a private party at Mir’s residence after the women met the footballer and his friends at a nightclub. The Civil Guard has not yet disclosed specifics about the alleged assault. Reports suggest that a “friend of the footballer” was also arrested following allegations from a 21-year-old woman.
Valencia Football Club released a statement acknowledging Mir’s arrest and pledged to cooperate fully with any legal proceedings. Further details are expected as the investigation progresses.
