Spencer Pratt Says He’s Been ‘Misrepresented’ for Most of His Life, Promises ‘Untold Truth’ in New Memoir

Spencer Pratt is ready to set the record straight.

The 41-year-old reality TV star, long known as one of television’s most polarizing personalities, says he has been “misrepresented for most of [his] life” — and he’s finally taking control of the narrative in his upcoming memoir, The Guy You Loved To Hate: Confessions From A Reality TV Villain.

Speaking to People, the former The Hills star opened up about his decision to release a tell-all book, promising a raw and unfiltered look at the man behind the media caricature.

“I’ve been misrepresented for most of my life — and honestly? That worked for a while,” Spencer said.

“But the real story is way more interesting than the fiction, which is why I’m finally telling it, no holds barred, in my own words.”

Known for his often controversial persona on MTV and beyond, Spencer now hopes readers will get to see a different side of him — one that’s been hidden beneath years of headlines and reality TV drama.

“I poured everything I have into this book, sharing all the secrets, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to share it with you.”

According to the book’s synopsis, The Guy You Loved to Hate will reveal the “untold truth behind the spectacle” of Spencer’s life — a darkly comedic and surreal confessional from a man who’s “finally broken character for good.”

Spencer has been married to fellow reality star Heidi Montag since 2008. The pair, once branded tabloid villains, have weathered public scrutiny for over a decade. Now, they’re each using their platforms to rewrite their reputations.

Heidi, 38, recently described herself as a “trailblazer” in Hollywood — particularly for being open about her highly publicised plastic surgery procedures. In 2009, she famously underwent ten surgeries in one day, drawing both shock and criticism.

But Heidi stands by her decision to be honest.

“I definitely was breaking the barrier and the fourth wall of what everyone was secretly doing in Hollywood,” she told The Independent.

“Part of being a trailblazer is when you are the first one to do something, you’re usually the most criticised for it… I never want to be a liar.”

She added that she has no regrets about being transparent:

“I wanted to tell the story of, hey, this is what I did and what a lot of people do — to break that facade and that mirage of what’s going on in Hollywood.”

As Spencer and Heidi both look to reshape their legacy, The Guy You Loved to Hate may finally give fans and critics alike the full picture — beyond the edits, the headlines, and the drama.
