Muyiwa Awoniyi, manager of Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Tems, has sparked debate on social media after warning Nigerian youths not to expect much from the government.
Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) handle, Awoniyi made a blunt statement:
“Nigeria has no plans for you.”
The post quickly went viral, igniting discussions about government responsibility, youth expectations, and nation-building.
Mixed Reactions from Nigerians
Many social media users agreed with Awoniyi, arguing that the Nigerian government has consistently failed to provide opportunities for young people. Others, however, countered his view, stating that rather than waiting for government intervention, citizens should actively contribute to national development.
Rema Encourages Youths to Stay Hopeful
This comes shortly after Afrobeats superstar Rema voiced concerns over the growing hopelessnessamong Nigerian youths.
In a recent interview, Rema acknowledged the numerous challenges facing the country but urged young Nigerians not to give up.
“Many people have given up on Nigeria, but we must not lose faith. The business of nation-building is not just for the government; it’s for all of us,” he said.
Rema also vowed to keep contributing to Nigeria’s development in his own way.
Should Nigerian Youths Give Up on the Government?
The conversation around government accountability and youth empowerment remains heated. While figures like Awoniyi believe self-reliance is the only way forward, artists like Rema advocate for hope and collective effort.
What do you think? Should Nigerian youths expect more from their government, or is self-reliance the only way forward?
