Timaya Shades Eedris Abdulkareem: “He Talks Too Much; No One Respects Him”

Afrobeats star Timaya has stirred up controversy by claiming that veteran musician Eedris Abdulkareem is not respected in the music industry because of his outspoken nature.

In an interview on Naija FM, Lagos, Timaya dismissed comparisons between himself and Abdulkareem. Responding to the host’s suggestion that both artists are considered intimidating figures, Timaya said:

I don’t talk like Eedris. I don’t behave like him. Nobody is afraid of him because he talks too much. He has always been a talkative. I respect myself so that people will respect me.

Reflecting on his early relationship with Abdulkareem, Timaya described it as a “boss and apprentice” dynamic during his time in Abdulkareem’s band. He explained that while Abdulkareem played a role in his rise, their connection was never familial.

When people are serving you, don’t act like you’re tolerating them; treat them like family because you don’t know tomorrow

Timaya advised.

The comments have sparked discussions about respect and mentorship within the Nigerian music scene.
