“Toke Makinwa Gets Real on Turning 40: ‘If I Had Remarried, I’d Be Divorced Again!’”

Toke Makinwa is owning her truth like never before! The Nigerian media queen and actress just dropped some major gems about love, life, and lessons learned in the latest episode of her Toke Moments podcast, I Am Growing Up, Not Old.

Reflecting on her journey at 40, Toke admitted that the idea of being single and childless at this age once terrified her. But now? She’s completely at peace with it. “Regret is exhausting. The hardest thing I could say to myself was, ‘I’m 40, single, and childless.’ But guess what? I said it, and I didn’t die,” she revealed.

Toke, who divorced businessman Maje Ayida in 2017, also confessed that if she had rushed into another marriage, it would have ended the same way. “The lessons just never stop. If I had gotten married again, I would be divorced again,” she admitted. Instead of dwelling on societal expectations, she’s choosing to celebrate her success. “I’m 40, I’m a boss, I’ve built an empire, I’m one of the most resounding voices in Africa. I have the love of family, great health, and I wake up happy.”

She also addressed the rumors of her alleged 2024 wedding to longtime friend Farouk Umar, shutting them down with a laugh. According to her, the supposed wedding was actually a Thanksgiving event, and they’re just “besties.”

With a refreshing take on self-acceptance, Toke proves that life isn’t about following a script—it’s about owning your journey, lessons and all.
