Genk striker Tolu Arokodare has expressed his excitement over receiving his first Super Eagles call-up, stating that he always believed it was just a matter of time.
Arokodare was initially included in Nigeria’s 39-man provisional squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe. His impressive goal-scoring form for Genk—where he currently leads the Belgian Jupiler Pro League with 17 goals—secured him a spot in the final 23-man squad.
The 24-year-old forward, one of the early arrivals in the Super Eagles’ training camp in Kigali, Rwanda, shared his thoughts on the call-up in an interview with NFF TV:
“First, I was surprised, but I felt very honoured to be mentioned among the 39 players. It was quite unexpected, but at the same time, I knew it was coming because I was doing pretty well. I was hoping for it, and it finally happened—I feel like a winner already.”
Arokodare added that making the final squad was a dream come true:
“Even if I didn’t make the final 23, I would have still felt like I had achieved something. But making it? I just feel really blessed and grateful. It means a lot to me.”
The former Cologne striker also reflected on the emotional significance of representing Nigeria:
“One of the best things that can happen to a footballer is getting the opportunity to play for your country. As a kid, you watch the country’s legends, and now being in a position to wear the jersey—it’s a big deal for me.”
With Amahoro Stadium in Kigali set to host Nigeria vs. Rwanda on June 21, Arokodare will be eager to make his debut and prove himself on the international stage.
