Tom Cruise Honorary Oscar Received at 2025 Governors Awards

Hollywood titan Tom Cruise accepted his first-ever Oscar statuette at the 16th Governors Awards on November 16, receiving the Academy Honorary Award for his extraordinary contributions to cinema. The honor recognizes Cruise’s decades of commitment to the theatrical experience and his dedication to the stunts community.

The award was presented by director Alejandro G. Iñárritu, who is directing Cruise in an upcoming project. The star delivered a highly emotional acceptance speech, declaring, “Making films is not what I do, it is who I am,” reflecting his lifelong passion for the craft.

Cruise, who has been nominated for four competitive Oscars, shared the prestigious non-competitive honors with choreographer Debbie Allen, production designer Wynn Thomas, and humanitarian Dolly Parton. The Academy praised Cruise for inspiring the industry with his commitment to theatrical releases.

The Tom Cruise Honorary Oscar cements his status as a cinematic legend, celebrating his extensive career that includes blockbusters like Mission: Impossible and Top Gun: Maverick.
