USWNT Legend Alex Morgan Announces Retirement from Soccer, Final Game Set for This Weekend

Alex Morgan, a legendary forward for the U.S. Women’s National Team (USWNT), has announced her retirement from professional soccer. The 35-year-old revealed the news in an emotional social media post, stating that her final game will take place this Sunday, September 8, when her current team, the San Diego Wave, faces the North Carolina Courage. Morgan’s decision comes as she prepares to welcome her second child.

“I gave everything to this sport, and what I got in return was more than I could ever dream of,” Morgan wrote on Instagram. “Success for me is defined by never giving up and giving your all, and I did just that.”

Morgan has had a stellar career, representing the USWNT from 2010 to 2024. She played a key role in helping the team secure two World Cup titles and an Olympic gold medal in 2012. In addition to her international achievements, she enjoyed success in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) with Orlando Pride and San Diego Wave, and also played for European clubs.

Morgan’s decision to retire is influenced by her growing family, as she and her husband, Servando Carrasco, are expecting their second child. The couple’s daughter, Charlie, is soon to be a big sister. “To me, family means everything,” Morgan said. “I wouldn’t be here without my husband and my family, uplifting and supporting me.”

Morgan’s retirement marks the end of an era, but her legacy as an advocate for women’s sports, an athlete, and a role model will continue to resonate.
