Wale Hosts Second Annual Gifted Week Football Clinic at Deanwood Center

Rapper Wale returned to his roots this month, seamlessly combining his twin passions for music and football at the Wale Deanwood Recreation Center in Washington D.C. The event was part of his second annual “Gifted Week,” a successful, week-long initiative designed to celebrate the DMV community and culture through creativity and sports.

The Deanwood Community Center hosted the highly anticipated Youth Football Clinic on Monday, November 10, kicking off the week’s events. Wale, an avid football fan, participated directly in the drills, displaying some of his “gridiron skills” while coaching and interacting with the local youth, blending celebrity influence with community engagement.

“Gifted Week,” which runs between “Wale Day” (November 10th) and November 15th, was founded by Wale and EQT in 2024. Its purpose is to foster strong connections between the DMV’s entertainment and creative communities. Events included a sneaker design workshop and a DC Poetry Jam, complementing the sports focus at the Wale Deanwood Recreation Center.

By centering the Wale Deanwood Recreation Center as the starting point for this expansive celebration, Wale underscores his commitment to the local community that raised him. The combination of athletic clinics and creative workshops ensures the program provides positive mentorship across various avenues for the next generation of DMV talent.
