Wizkid’s ‘Joro’ Hits Gold Status in the U.S., Solidifying Afrobeats’ Global Rise

Afrobeats sensation Wizkid has just reached a new career high with his 2019 hit “Joro,” which has now sold 500,000 units in the United States, making it eligible for an RIAA Gold certification. This achievement adds to Wizkid’s growing list of RIAA accolades, affirming his position as the most certified Nigerian artist in the U.S.

“Joro,” produced by Northboi, has captivated listeners worldwide, amassing 125 million streams on Spotify and reaching 290 million views on YouTube, making it one of the most-watched Afrobeats videos on the platform. Since its release, “Joro” has played a pivotal role in pushing Afrobeats to international prominence, building on Wizkid’s global influence.

With this certification, Wizkid’s impressive portfolio expands further. He is the only Nigerian artist to have a diamond-certified track in the U.S., thanks to his feature on Drake’s global hit, “One Dance.” His other notable certifications include a 4x Platinum plaque for “Essence” featuring Tems and gold plaques for collaborations such as “Soco,” “Mood” with BNXN, “Call Me Everyday” with Chris Brown, and “Brown Skin Girl” alongside Beyonce and Saint Jhn.

Wizkid’s Grammy-nominated album Made In Lagos is also one of only four Nigerian projects to earn RIAA certifications, marking the artist’s continuing success in taking Afrobeats from Lagos to the world.
