Wole Soyinka Honored with Lifetime Achievement Award at Pink Awards

The Pink Awards has bestowed its prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award on Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, in recognition of his exceptional contributions to literature and social activism. The announcement came during the awards’ 11th-anniversary celebration in Lagos, with Princess Veronica Okei, the event’s initiator, describing Soyinka as a beacon of inspiration and dedication.

“Soyinka exemplifies the values that the Pink Awards stand for: excellence, inspiration, and commitment,” Okei said in a statement.

Dr. Joe Okei-Odumakin, President of Women Arise for Change and a key supporter of the Pink Awards, praised Soyinka’s unwavering commitment to human rights and social justice over a career spanning more than six decades.

“Soyinka’s works, including plays, poems, and essays, have not only enriched global literature but also served as a catalyst for activism,” Okei-Odumakin stated, recalling his 1986 Nobel Prize win as a defining moment for African literature.

The Pink Awards, now in its sixth annual edition, continues to celebrate individuals and organizations that exemplify excellence and drive positive change.
