WWE 2K23 Servers Set to Shut Down: A Blow to Fans Before the Game’s Second Anniversary

January 6, 2025, will be a tough day for WWE 2K fans, as 2K Games plans to shut down the online servers for WWE 2K23. This decision means the game will lose its online features less than two years after its launch in March 2023, continuing a trend of premature server closures in the franchise.

The loss of online functionality is a significant blow, given how much of WWE 2K23’s content revolves around multiplayer modes and online engagement. Fans who purchased the game expecting long-term support are understandably disappointed.

Earlier indications suggested the servers might shut down even sooner, with an initial closure date of September 30, 2024. However, that deadline passed without action, leaving some room for speculation that the January date could also be postponed. Despite this possibility, fans should prepare for the likelihood that January 6 will mark the end of WWE 2K23’s online life.

Adding to the frustration, the PS4 and Xbox One versions of WWE 2K23 have already been removed from digital storefronts. While the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S editions remain available, the delisting of older versions highlights the vulnerabilities of digital gaming, where even high-budget titles can eventually disappear or lose crucial features.

Although 2K’s rationale—focusing resources on future releases like WWE 2K25—makes business sense, the quick shutdowns of online modes leave a bitter taste for fans who invested in the game. On the bright side, if the studio follows its usual release pattern, fans can expect a reveal for WWE 2K25 by the end of January 2025.

Still, players should remain cautious. The abrupt closures of online features in recent titles suggest that even WWE 2K25 could face a similar fate down the line. For now, fans are left grappling with the disappointment of losing a significant part of WWE 2K23’s experience far too soon.
