YNW Melly’s Double Murder Retrial Pushed to 2027 — Here’s Why the Case Keeps Getting Delayed

It’s been more than six years since YNW Melly was arrested, and it looks like fans will have to wait even longer to see the outcome of his high-profile double murder case.

The “Murder on My Mind” rapper, locked up in Florida since early 2019, just had his retrial pushed all the way to early 2027. The delay comes after the state’s 4th District Court of Appeals decided on Friday (Aug. 8) that the trial — which was supposed to kick off next month — will instead be postponed until January. This gives the court time to review a motion from the state attorney’s office over what evidence will actually be allowed in court.

Melly’s first trial back in 2023 ended in a mistrial, and since then, the state’s second attempt has been slowed by legal twists — including a reported investigation into one of Melly’s lawyers and ongoing disputes about key evidence.

The 25-year-old rapper (real name Jamell Demons) is accused, alongside fellow YNW member YNW Bortlen, of killing Christopher “YNW Juvy” Thomas Jr. and Anthony “YNW Sakchaser” Williams in October 2018. According to authorities, Bortlen drove the two men to a Miramar, Florida hospital, claiming they were victims of a drive-by shooting — but within months, both he and Melly were named suspects. Melly turned himself in February 2019 and has been behind bars ever since.

On top of the criminal case, Melly also faces civil lawsuits from the families of Sakchaser and Juvy.

From chart-topping hits to facing life behind bars, Melly’s story remains one of the most dramatic in modern rap history — and with this latest delay, the saga is far from over.
