Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti has revealed that his late father, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, gave him preferential treatment compared to his other siblings. Speaking on the Zero Conditions podcast, Kuti shared that he was pampered as a child and described Fela as an amazing father, despite what his siblings might say.
Kuti proudly mentioned that he has never done laundry in his life, attributing this to the special treatment he received growing up. “I won the daddy lottery. Fela Kuti is my favourite person in the world. If you asked my brothers they could say he’s a terrible dad but to me, he was an amazing father,” he said.
He also shared that he joined his father’s band, Egypt 80, at the age of 8, and continued with the band after Fela’s death, with the family’s encouragement to keep all the money he earned.
